Wittenoom mine and gorge

In 1947, a company town was built in Wittenoom to house the workers of the sought after asbestos mine. During the 1950’s and early 1960’s Wittenoom was Australia's only supplier of blue asbestos. By the 1950’s, Wittenoom was Pilbara's largest town.
